Great news for families in Australia! If your parents have been struggling with visa age restrictions, the government has finally made a major change to the Aged Parent visa eligibility rules.
Under the Migration Amendment (Substituted Subclass 600 Visa Exemptions) Regulations 2025, the new rules relax the age requirement for certain visa applicants.
If someone holds a substituted Subclass 600 (Visitor) visa through ministerial intervention (via sections 351, 501J, or former section 417 of the Migration Act), they can now apply for: Aged Parent (Subclass 804)
Contributory Aged Parent (Subclass 864)
Contributory Aged Parent (Subclass 884)
That’s right—no more age restrictions for these applicants!
More Parents Qualify – Families can now reunite without the usual age hurdle.
Applies Retroactively – Anyone granted a substituted Subclass 600 visa since 17 December 2024 can benefit.
Faster & Fairer Processing – Less stress, less waiting, more certainty!
This change doesn’t require additional consultation because it aligns with existing policy exemptions—making it a smooth and straightforward update.
